Cathedral of the city of Puno

The Cathedral was built in the 17TH century and its front was sculpted by the Peruvian architect Simón de Asto. This church is a sample of Spanish Baroque and includes Andean elements that give the monument its mixed nature.


Conde de Lemos Balcony

Built around 1668, tells that this House accommodated Viceroy Conde de Lemos when it came to the area to quell a rebellion. Currently runs all the cultural complex of the National Institute of culture of the Puno region and boasts an art gallery.


Deustua Arch

Built in carved stone, was erected by the Puno people in memory of the Patriots who fought for the independence of Peru.


Huajsapata Hill

Ecotourism Boardwalk Bay of the Incas

Titicaca National Reserve

Titicaca Lake

This Lake is very important in Andean mythology because, according to legend, from water emerged Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, sons of the Sun God and founders of the Inca Empire.

Peru and Bolivia share the sovereignty of this navigable lake, the highest in the world (3810 masl.). It has an area of 8559 km2, a maximum depth of 283 meters and the average annual temperature of its waters varies from October to may between 9 2° C (48 2° F) and 11 2° C (52 2° F); from June to September between - 7 2° C (19 2° F) and - 10 2° C (14 2° F). Lake also is temperador in the area, because without him there would be no life at this altitude.

There are several islands, including Taquile, Amantani, Soto and Anapia on the Peruvian side of Titicaca Lake (natural Islands) and Uros (artificial islands), each with different attractions. On the shores of the Lake grow the totora(greed), where various birds and fish refuge as the killfish, ispis, bogas, umantos, suches (endangered), Silversides and trout; all these species are native and listed by their high nutritional value.


Uros Floating Islands

5 Km. West of the port of Puno (20 minutes by boat).

Uros Island. Puno PeruThe islands of the Uros (3810 masl.) are in the Bay of Puno and are approximately 20. Each is inhabited by about 3 to 10 families Uro-Aymara, who built and techan homes with mats of reeds, although there are some who have replaced their traditional roofs by calamine. The main islands include Tupiri, Santa Maria, Gallery, Toranipata, Chumi, Paradise, Kapi, Titino, Tinajero and Negrone.

Uros call themselves kotsuña, "the Lake people", and its origins go back to pre-incas periods. Maintained the tradition of artisanal fisheries, especially the carachi and the smelt, as well as the hunting of wild birds. Men are skilled conductors of totora rafts and women are Weaver experts.

Amantani Island

At 36 km. northeast of port of Puno (3 hours and 30 minutes by boat).

Located at 3817 masl., Amantani has a population of about 9 km2. The flora of the place is characterized by the presence of shrubby plants as the muña, kantuta, Sage, tola and patamuña. The island is home to eight communities engaged especially in the cultivation of potato, corn, goose, quinoa, beans and peas and most representative craftsmanship is constituted by the textiles and the carved in stone.

Natural attractions include two viewpoints from where you can see the Lake in its entire length, as well as Pre-Hispanic traces, ceremonial centers and a cemetery of mummies at the top.


Taquile island

To 35 km. East of the port of Puno (3 hours by boat).

Taquile Island. Puno PeruIts approximate length of 6 km2 and altitude between the port and the village varies slightly, 3810 masl. 3950 m. The maximum temperature is 23 2° C (66 2° F) and the minimum of 7 2° C (37 2° F).

The vestiges of the island dates back top Pre-Inca times and can be seen in the upper part. During the colonial period and until the early 20th century, the place was used as a political prison, but from 1970 the island was to become the exclusive property of the taquileños. Taquile is characterized by its friendly residents, who preserved their customs, traditions and old-style clothing. Villagers are notable for their laborious and fine textiles with symbolic, symmetrical decorations of strong colours that reflect your lifestyle, habits and Andean beliefs.
