In Peru the main religion is Catholicism. The 2007 Census 81.3% of the population over 12 years considered Catholic.

One of the most prominent religious manifestations is the procession of the Lord of the miracles, whose image dating from the colonial era goes in procession through the streets of Lima the month of October each year. This image has received tributes of Pope John Paul II (who named Lima lent) and Pope Benedict XVI is also considered by L'Osservatore Romano since 1993, as the manifestation of more great faith in the world. In Peru and the rest of Latin America there is also a large number of devotions to the cross and many Marian devotions as the Virgen de Chapi, Feast of the Candelaria (Puno), Virgen del Carmen, the Virgen de la Puerta , and so on.
