The Arequipa Municipal Historical Museum

It is located in the Historic City Centre, exactly in the Fundo El Fierro Plazoleta San Francisco.
The inauguration of the Museum was an August 18, the year of 1955; in the House of Culture. The relics which houses the Historical Museum are of incalculable value and include some important pieces as: the flag of the first free battalions of Arequipa, a standard used in the combat of May 2, 1866, from about 16 meters long , possessions of the fighters on May 2 and the war of the Pacific are also. University of San Agustín Archaeological Museum

The museum displays a varied collection that includes stone objects, skeletal remains of human sacrifices, ceramics pre-Hispanic ceramics of Nazca, Tiahuanaco, Huari and Inca cultures, and gold and silver ages of Inca and colonial objects.

In addition, the sample includes pieces of gold and silver from the colonial and Republican.

Museum of archaeology of the Catholic University of Santa María

The Museum exhibits about 1 000 objects (pottery, textiles, mummies, stone objects and objects of wood and metal) of the different cultural groups developed in the region, dating from the year 12,000 BC. Its rooms have pre-Hispanic pieces of local cultures with other Andean peoples such as the Nazca, Tiahuanaco, Wari, Churajón, Acarí, Aruni and the Incas.

Andean Sanctuaries of the Catholic University of Santa María Museum

The Museum was created on March 26, 1997, following the important archaeological research done by the "Shrines of height of the South Andean" project. This Museum is the place where on display "La Dama de Ampato", inca mummy of a young girl of 12 or 14 years old, found at the top of the volcano Ampato by anthropologist Johan Reinhard and the climber Miguel Zárate, the archaeologist José Chávezon 8 September 1995. According to experts, it is very likely that the girl whose remains were found frozen died of a stroke in the temple with a five-pointed Granite Club. Apparently it would have been an offering to the Apu Ampato and its antiquity dates back to about 500 years.

The Museum of Contemporary Art

It is dedicated to painting and photography of the year 1900 onward, houses an interesting collection of art of the 20th century, photography and exhibitions of Miguel Vargas and Carlos Vargas. Works of local young artists, Peruvian artist's paintings as Fernando de Szyszlo and Carlos Enrique Polanco, Ramiro Llona, José Tola, Gerardo Chavez, Natalia Iguíñiz, Jaime Higa, light Letts, Carlos Runcie Tanaka, Amelia Weiss, Claudia Cuzzi and Venancio Shinki are also exhibited.
